Ray Donovan

I love my TV series. The episodes are shorter than a full movie (great if you're just having a break), and the good ones leave you on the edge of your seat. Although there is a plethora TV series to suit every taste, I'm always on the lookout for hidden gems. Such a gem was Ray Donovan.

If you've ever watched Scandal, it's a bit like that, only better and with that little bit of Hollywood glam. Liev Schreiber plays Ray who's a 'fixer' working with the powerful 'Goldman & Drexler' law firm, who in turn represents LA's rich and famous. Nevertheless, although Ray kind of glides between cases and solves his clients' problems with few words and a lot of skill, he struggles to solve his own familial issues. Ray's main headache is his father, Mickey, who's released from prison early and who apparently tries to take over his family.

Obviously Ray is no saint. He lives a double life, with his wife Abby being completely ignorant of the lengths her husband will go for his work. Nail-biting.

Now, I love this show. I actually binge-watched all episodes hitherto aired in one day - it was my way of celebrating my first day off from work. But you really don't have to take my word for it.

Of course it scores an impressive 8/10 on imdb.com.
And its pilot episode aired on July 16th 2013 broke all records of Showtime, becoming the biggest premiere of all time on the said channel.

I'll leave it to you.
